Committee for Undergraduate Middle East Studies (CUMES)
CUMES is dedicated to addressing the particular needs of Middle East studies faculty and programs at non-research 1 universities. It focuses on pedagogy and methodology, teaching and learning in Middle East studies specifically at the undergraduate level. Membership is open to all educators and any others involved in the instruction of Middle East studies (all disciplines, all fields) to undergraduate populations.
Future plans include a periodic newsletter and website that will allow for sharing of information, syllabi and pedagogical news; an annual undergraduate student paper award; and sponsorship of panels at the MESA annual meeting.
For the MESA 2012 meeting in Denver, CUMES has organized a roundtable entitled, "Teaching Middle East Studies: Promises, Pitfalls and Practicalities."
