text)
Writing under a pseudonym, this assistant
professor who teaches Middle East studies at a university
in the South
discusses
the pressures of being a new faculty hire in Middle East
studies–teaching, departmental responsibilities,
maintaining an active research agenda and, much to her surprise,
having to navigate the world of hate mail
and personal attacks that are part of the every-day life
of a scholar of the Middle East who holds views that some
may find in opposition to their own. (Back
